In a stirring Easter Sunday homily, Pope Francis asked all of us to seek truth, beauty, and love. The homily came at a time when Christians all over the world are under attack. Christians are being killed by Muslim warriors in foreign countries. People of faith are under attack by secular forces in Europe and the United States. This spiritual guidance is inspiring. It is also sound advice from positive psychology that I give to clients in my role as a possibilities coach. This is also personal to me as Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence is my number one signature strength. Sometimes I get off track. Pope Francis said:
To enter into the mystery means going beyond our own comfort zone, beyond the laziness and indifference which hold us back, and going out in search of truth, beauty and love.
This is wonderful advice for us as individuals. Correspondingly, as an American Community, indeed a world community, we need to clear out a lot of junk (sin) and seek truth, beauty and love. Deconstruction and rebuilding. Unfortunately, there are those that do not want us to succeed because they prefer the status quo or they envision a different kind of community. We shall overcome. Let’s roll.
